Hi,

Welcome to HM,

Can you please explain a bit about what you are trying to show us?

I added a single phase 220 volt switch to the PM 833TV on the power inlet box. There is plenty of room for the switch inside the box. The second picture is the template that I made to cut the hole in the cover plate to accommodate the switch. This is will allow me to let it plugged in and not have the fan running constantly.

I can agree with that, a fan running anytime the machine is plugged into power would be annoying not to mention a waste of electricity. Just my thinking but you may want to let it run for a bit after you use the mill to help cool it.

As part of a larger electrical re-vamp i just installed a super cheap W3230 temperature controller switch on my fan. these switches are cheap and readily available in all the common voltages, including 220 for this mill. Now i can see the inside temp of my control box. I have not used the mill extensively since, but with limited use the interior of the box has not risen more than a degree C above ambient. I also looked at the mini thermocoupole switches, but the cost basically the same as this unit with a screen and lacked the sexy lights and buttons.

Do the thermocouple switches turn off and on at preset temperatures? I have a PM1440 2V, and listening to the fan running is extremely annoying, and in fact I wouldn’t have bought it if I knew the fan would be running constantly whenever the unit is switched on. I’m not particularly good with electronics as compared with mechanical devices, but would love to be able to have the fan run only when the lathe is turning.

You can get the little switch action bimetallic switches at almost any temperature setting. ~ a few dollars in quantity of one. They are designed to have hysteresis so that they are not switching off and on at a small temperature changes. I think they are what is used on some coffee makers to turn the heat on and off. So they must have a very long lifetime. They are probably fine for the low current of a motor fan and are rated for 110 or 220 volts. I just googled "bimetallic temperature switch" Quick search Digikey 1NT01F-8406 turns on at power at 140F and resets to being open at 104F. It will handle 5Amp at 240volts and 100K cycles. It is a little more expensive at $8.10. Probably less than shipping! I am sure the ones in the coffee makers don't cost more than a buck.

By The way, I would mount this directly to the motor housing so that you don't have to wait for air in the connection box to warm up. It is probably better to make sure that the motor is not over hot anyway.

I would still put in the manual switch to over ride.
