Epoxy strength vs forces generated in milling

I have been looking at watchmaker lathes. They are tiny. I would need high powered magnifying glasses to be able to see what was happening. Cutting threads must be a challenge. I recently had to cut some 40 tpi threads. I can't imagine cutting the fine threads needed in watch making. I will be following your project.

The project sounds fun, but I suspect it will be hard to beat the total $500 cost of the 7x14 lathes on ebay. We tend to dismiss these lathes, but that's only when comparing them to lathes that cost many times more. If you could find a used mini-lathe, you could probably get it for a 250-300.

For your task the HF small lathe is perfect.

Fits on a shelf for storage, get a commercial cookie sheet from a restaurant supply house to place on your table as a catch all and learn.

Ours was great, Was on sale so it was available in a tight market.

The Chuck on ours was dead nuts repeatable, could remove and replace work and it would be true.

With your limited space this fits your need.

I'll absolutely +1 a used Sherline. I picked up a 4400 for $250 and it made an excellent first lathe for small stuff. They're quite capable machines and they're much safer than a larger lathe in my opinion. Perfect fit for a 13 year old.
