I tried this again using 45% Phosphoric acid but I used a felt "brush" to apply the acid. I used 18v and 12v with no apparent difference:
This technique worked very well for removing the weld discoloration and oxidation. It did not, however, leave a polished surface:
The object on the right has been electropolished. You can see a dull grey finish. The object on the left has been brushed with a stiff stainless brush after treatment. You can see that it is brighter and shiner. This technique of electropolishing followed by brushing seems to be pretty good! I am happy with the finish and it is better than either process alone.
I kept burning through my felt electrode. I need to find something more durable for this.
