hello. did this thing to my tailstock yesterday. the Jacobs chuck ejects fine (not by much), but my live center and Morse taper drill bits don't. do I just machine a slug to push down inside the tailstock spindle (not sure if that's called a spindle) that I can remove with a magnetic pick-up tool, or do I make some kind of extension for the other tools? did not expect this problem dammit.

On the one tool where it bothered me, I machined a "tail" to screw into the end. Otherwise I assume that your tailstock ram has a slot for a tapered drift to eject implements not so equipped.

I had this problem on one if my Hendey lathes... I removed the screw from the tailstock, drilled the end of the screw, and pressed a dowel pin in to lengthen it...

there's not a slot. there is a round bar with a smaller round pin in the center.

I suspect that this is what I have, just don't see the threads when I look down the barrel with a flashlight. maybe I need a longer pin.

Hardinge TL-10 seems to have a loose plug in the tailstock from the factory.

It’s pretty easy to drill and tap for a set screw in the end of the shorter tools. In little bit of blue picture and it’s not going to move once you set the length to where you want it

For my SB 10K, I made a longer tailstock screw.

Have you tried that Blue pill ?

Ah , never mind , I misread the title .
