DRO for the Compound Angle

Very nicely done. I might buy a couple to play with, but I don't think there is any way to squeeze it into my little compound slide. The same company was making a similarly compact linear encoder that I looked at a while back, but unfortunately they no longer seem to be available. Very interesting products.
 
Looks well done! I've looked at the data sheet for AS5147P, and am wondering... It says that the host controller can read 14-bit absolute angle position data, or get the incremental movement with a maximum resolution of 4096 steps per revolution. From what you mentioned it seems you're using the incremental movement. What about polling the absolute angle position data several times per second, instead? That would give 4 times better resolution (0.022 degrees)
 
AMS had a similar linear encoder at one time that looked interesting, but I believe that they discontinued it.
 
What are you, some sort of Einstein?
