A quick peruse on eBay told me even used they were out of my ball park for the time being.

Huk,

I dug out the old fuzzy video I took when I checked out the new Precision Matthews R8 shanked high precision drill chuck. Half the price of the German made one I bought from Enco, which I returned for excessive runout.

That's a 0.0005 DTI.

I used that drill chuck quite a bit when I was doing mods on the TX Junior's AR15 rear sights with 2 parallel .125 pins for the rear sight to ride up and down on.

I think you will find that a lot of the direct imports are a bit, creative, with specs like runout. That's not to say that you can't get a good one, but if you need good accuracy, you will need to pay more. The cheaper ones will be a gamble. And going direct, if there is a problem, your recourse is limited.

It's a drill chuck though, if you are putting twist drills in it, you are already losing accuracy. Particularly if you source those bits from HF or similar. It depends on what you are trying to do. I decided that even though my drill bits are kind of crap, I wanted a good chuck. I found a few people recommend https://www.glacern.com and I've been happy with the chuck I bought. I haven't tested it, I should get a nice ground rod to test with.

A few months ago I bought the Glacern R8 chuck after lots of searching for the best one to buy. I thought if it were R8 built in it would eliminate the need to be held in another devise/collet and more accurate. It has been great

Here's a decent looking Albrecht 0-1/2" Needs new jaws and cleaning but the price is pretty low: $118
New jaw set from Msc about $85, maybe on sale with discount or you may find new jaw set on Ebay.
I've purchased from this seller. All they sell is machining tools, not a cyber pawn shop. Write to them, they may even give\
you a better price considering it needs new jaw set.

If you can wait I got a brand new Albrecht 0-1/2" for $170 shipped on eBay. Although it didn't have an arbor.

I think you should use a piece of precision ground drill rod for your test. Other than that, I’m thinking you already got better advice than I could offer.

I'm feeling better about the .005 tir on my HF 13 in. drill press with 5/8 chuck.
