Do threads like "Needing more than a spark test" need a different sub-forum?

I lost interest in that thread a long time ago.

What’s bugging me is on the forum list main page the most recently discussed topic inder each category is all fubar.

In the beginner forum header I’m showing a o-ring groove thread last discussed in the middle of July, and in general machine shop discussion I’m showing how to charge for jobs as the most recent.

WTF?

And just like that things started working correctly for me.

Such is life…

It’s hard to believe, with the abundance (overabundance?) of subforums that we already have, any thread topic one can imagine wouldn’t fit at least one of them.

Like others have mentioned, I quit trying to follow threads by remembering which subforums they’re in. I have the “New posts” page bookmarked and that’s my opening page when I come here. Even if a thread has no recent comments, I still find it easier to find it somewhere down the new posts list than forage through the forest of subforums.

Did I mention I think there are already too many subforums? ;) ymmv

What's funny to me is- sometimes I will not see any new posts in a watched thread, but when I go to new posts there are some in that thread.

I've run across this as well, though it seems that *eventually* I'll get a notice. (I have ignored posts in the 'New Posts' section to which I'm subscribed just to see.) It may be that the forum software only checks posts against watchers at some scheduled interval, or it may be a hiccup in the software. Hard to know without access under the hood.

I agree with most comments, just leave it where it is. There are so many sub forums already it's kind of daunting.

I think some of the forums, especially the brand machinery forum (Clausing, Bridgeport etc) should be sub forums of a “machine topic” type board.

This would clean up the general look and user experience of the forum and only add one click if you’re wanting specific info from that board.
