I don't think you got hurt on the deal, but my question is does it come with the other dividing plates - or just the one?
&^%$

It doesn't appear to have been seriously abused, just a little age and storage wear. If I had a need, I might have paid that for it, but remember, I'm in this to make money, so to buy that, I'd have a job requirement that could justify it. Just to "have" in case? Maybe.

I bought it "just to have" because I will need a dividing head for my Van Norman #12 mill.

I have a smaller LW dividing head for my Burke #4 with 3 plates but without the chuck and matching tailstock that I paid $150 for.

This had the matching tailstock and a chuck

Just hoping I didn't get taken.

I don't think it comes with plates, which could be a problem. I picked up all 3 dividing plates for the small LW head I have for the Burke from someone on PM. Hopefully, I can find some for this one also.

Bear in mind that you can make plates if you need some. You do have another set with more plate, after all. My first plates were made without a working set to start with.

That was an OK deal IF:
The chuck holds work near perfectly true for the diameters you will be using.
The tailstock center aligns perfectly with the bore of the dividing head.
You have no need of any additional dividing plates.
It has a common taper in the bore (MT3, MT2, 5C).

Otherwise you could have gotten more for less.

Many of the gears I have to cut on my dividing head have a TIR spec of 0.002", some much less.

Looking at similar units on eBay... you got yours pretty cheap.

Yeah, I noticed that similar units on Ebay are always selling for more- even from Reliable. I was kinda surprised to get it for this price. It looks like it just needs a bit of cleanup.
My other LW that is on the Burke is smaller, but in very good condition. I got it off a guy on PM ages ago for $150, without a chuck, so $265 didn't seem to bad with a chuck. Chucks aren't cheap.

if you consider my crappy chinese one cost a hundred less without the chuck and had to stripped down and cleaned and adjusted and repaired, then no you didn't pay too much. it looks like it was no used very much.
You did good.
