I should have started documenting this sooner. Better late than never. Here is the quick back story. A few weeks back my friend called and said his neighbor was having an estate sale for his late father-in-law. He had a bunch of woodworking equipment.
I am not a woodworker but tools are tools. So I went and had a look. I found a few decent heavy 3” C clamps. When I was getting done I gave a bench another look and behind a box was the Derbyshire Magnus components. I paid $60 for the lot of lathe stuff.
The above picture is after cleaning up the bed and tailstocks.
I am going to use the geared tailstock as apposed to the plunger to start. I will have to remove the quill lock from the plunger tailstock and install on the grated one. Both tailstocks are missing the locking mechanism for the bed. These I will need to make. Also on the geared tailstock I will for the time being use the collet draw tube from the spare headstock.
I repainted the bed, tailstock and headstock with a bit of leftover Rustolium Hammer black. I baked it after painting.
More to come.
Cutting oil is my blood.
