just to see I did try it in this fashion. wouldn't raise at all. I did clean all the crap off of it. There is an O ring on the piston which is the other seal, i replaced that when I replaced this thing.
Anyway i might need another U seal now

I can't tell which way is up on your piston, but the high pressure needs to go into the groove.

The upper picture is the right orientation. Make sure you swap the piston rod o ring #53 for a fresh one!

That is a single acting cylinder. Hydraulic pressure to extend only. The open face of the piston seal is oriented toward the oil input fitting. That's because the oil pressure will tend to open the seal against the cylinder/piston. If oil keeps leaking out of the rod wiper, it's because the piston seal is not sealing correctly. Check the cylinder tube for dents that have made it out-of-round. Check the cylinder bore for galling/scratches and good surface finish. The rod wiper is not a pressure seal. Only there to keep debris out of the works while letting air pass.

Was just the seal. took it out and measured it. bought a replacement from mcMaster-Carr and it worked fine. Place i bought the kit from Lazarr's HCRCnow left me high and dry though. Wont be buying from him again.
