The parts you made came out well and if you're doing that without help, you're off to a good start. I don't know your needs but it seems you could benefit from a 12x36 size machine. Check your local craigslist and see what you come up with.

Ok so what is ment by a "collett" Ive seen them on epay but what do you do with them.

Also 300 buck is WELL in the buget if I got it for 300 is there room to make money off it in pices or whole? This would go to support the next larger lathe.

I really apercate the help on this, I want to spend my money wisely and not hurry into something. I got my little atlas for 50 bucks and may have now 200 in it with extra tooilng. With the larger lathe I dont think Ill sell the little one, just set it in the corrner of the shop.

Vince--yes you could definately resell the Hardinge for a profit if you got it for 300--the cross-slide compound would bring that alone. one thing to look at--- if it is three phase motor or single phase(mine is single phase). I also have a 10" logan that is very nice to run for me, but it is not a quick change for threading. I think a larger Logan like the others are talking about would be a lot more than 800 with some tooling, but if the Hardinge has a 3-jaw chuck, 4-jaw chuck and some 5c collets then it may run a lot higher than 300. Dave--you didn't say how big your shop is (that I remember )which may help your decision.

My shop? Well it has a dirt floor, good hard southern clay, for one thing. Im in the prosses of making it larger, but I cant run 3 phase equipment. With some work I could, but its not going to happen for a good long time.

Found a 9 inch south bend, but I didnt relize that I could get a power cross feed in an old lathe. Im going to say if I push it, my budget will be around 1300 for my next lathe. So I dont know if a logan would be in that range or not Im just starting to reaed about them. My friend is really happy with his Monarch EE he got and thinks that I would like it too. We both have the same tractors and do about the same with them.
