The micrometer stop works well. I just use it to get within .010 or so.
Tapping M3 in copper was somewhat tedious and you could break a tap. The riveting was pretty easy and makes a nice tight fit. You can't even see the rivets after sanding flat. I will give it some time to see if anything comes loose but I feel like the rivets are the way to go. On the face of the copper there is a countersink and the rivets are expanded into that so I feel like there is pretty good purchase. I had a few stray hammer hits but not bad for never having done it before. Perhaps rivets are underutilized?
