I had a Honda engine that lost oil pressure and seized up an aluminum connecting rod. It used the rod directly on the crankshaft as a bearing, and the aluminum fused with the crankshaft journal. I used Lye to eat away the aluminum deposit and the journal took almost no polishing to return to service.
I didn't think about oven cleaner. I used it to degrease some aluminum parts, once, before anodizing (Boy did that project go to hell fast) but the cleaner didn't seem to harm the aluminum.
