Use a ruler and count the number of threads in 1/2”. 4 is the number you are looking for. Not 3 which is before 4 and not 5 which comes after 4! Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
To quote Mr. Pete, as he was talking about a spindle thread protector, if the threads get messed up, the lathe is basically trashed. Thread lightly on that side of the problem. Chucks and back plates are cheap, well relatively anyway.
