CDCO Collets

Twenty years ago I used to think that if you bought anything other than a Maytag you were wasting your money. Now they are no different than anything else. I would say the same thing with Michelin tires. Now they are made in China. I also never buy anything but Honda power equipment but guess what? Yep I learned last week when a buddy bought a new mower and the engine said made in China! Get this. It was announced yesterday that Smithfield Foods of Smithfield VA, a very old American company and the largest pork producer in the world was purchased by the Chinese for 4.7 Billion.
But back on subject. What I am talking about is like the Shars 3/8" edge finder that ended up going right in the trash the day I received it. At the same time I bought a set of boring bars that look and work perfect.

Yes, Where are South Bend Lathes made today? What about Delta, DeWalt, Milwaukee, Apple, Gateway etc, etc? I had a chance to go to work for Gateway several years ago when they were just beginning. Glad I didn't.
Right, on some things the product does what it is supposed to and some don't. The tough thing is to discover which is which. That is where this forum could be really helpful. I guess it already is to a certain extent. It is the reason I went with a PM 1236 , largely because of the customer service that Ray and others have shared with us about Matt. There can be failures with any product or service but how the company deals with those failures makes a big difference. I don't know why companies, large or small can't figure out that the customer pays their salary. Some act like they are doing the customer a favor by selling them something but without the customer there are no companies.

I have found some
annoying little issues with some of their products as well (most recently some AXA tool holders), I no longer buy from them. While the price was great -$8 I spent a good deal of time fettling them.

I have found phase II and shars to be good import quality.

I have 11 collets from CDCO bought over three purchases.. All work well, hold great run out and fit just fine on the MT3 taper.

Might just be a bad batch.. or your machine has some specific needs not met by the collet design

Say, where you getting your Phase II stuff from? I've heard good things about it but have not found any suppliers in particular that carry it regularly.
