I know full well that the Bessemer conversion method and the hearth furnace methods of steelmaking require adding 50% scrap steel to the new pig metal, so we (used to) do it too. I just think sometimes I can still see nuts, bolts, bearings, and spokes breaking the surface of some of that foundry work.
