BROWN & SHARP 318 SURFACE GRINDER

Maybe a 618 or 818?

I have an 818... Brown & Sharpe didn't make much junk. They have a reputation for being very good grinders.

I'd go one further, B&S never made ANY junk! I have a 618 Micromaster, can't say that there may be anything deficient in it's design or execution.
I previously had several #2 B&S surface grinders, the Micromasters are quite an advance in design and smoothness of operation.

I also think the ad was a misprint when it said b & s 318, was probably a 618

With B&S, 618 designated capacity or area it is capable of grinding, there are several models that use the designation, The Micromaster being one, and the #2 also falls into that category, but there are many differences in machines and how they are equipped and powered (or non powered so far as the travels are concerned). A picture us indeed worth a thousand words.
