Broken tap

As someone who built racing kart motors (think 5hp bumped to 14hp) I can almost certainly say that replacing the crank is probably cheaper than carbide end mills. Especially if you can find another 5hp motor free, if I was in Michigan I could send you a crank from my parts pile.

Let us know how it works out, but if you're working on a Briggs flathead motor I know there's lots of them in Georgia around kart tracks.

A carbide die drill might work better than that end mill, especially if its in a deep hole. The tap is hardened steel and will probably work better than an end mill.

It is a Tecumseh H50. I have not even looked for a new crank. Figured it was a old Engine and and not real popular. But I might be totally wrong. I will check on die drills. Not sure what they are bit I will check it out. Thanks for all the info.

Well, if you decide to look for one I could try and point you in the right direction. How deep of a hole do you have and are the threads any good in there? You don't need 3/4' to bolt a clutch on.

If it is just a generic mini bike the kids ride around on you might consider looking at a harbor freight 6.5 engine.
They often go on sale for $100.
I put one on my old Troy Bilt rototiller, then on a neighbors to replace worn out Tecumseh H60 (I think) engines.
Was a pretty easy swap, every thing bolted up.
Of course YMMV.
