Big Dog?

since your Your friend sent it to you and you haven't seen the tracks the yourself. It'll be hard to tell for sure what it came from. But don't be surprised if it is a wolf track.....

The suspicion is wolf, there are a few packs established to the east and south-east. The friends Russian wife claims to have seen a wolf before in the area.

I did not know wolves had been seen in California since the 1900s.

I knew some back country rangers in the early 2000s who were positive that they had seen Grizzlies in some remote California wilderness areas.

There was one lone male spotted a few years back in northern California who came from a pack in Oregon. A year or two later he was caught on camera with a female and pups. Now there are several small packs, ranging all the way down to Tulare county.

I heard those same stories about rangers and Grizzlies. They should have either increased in number or died out by now. Lack of any sitings suggest the latter if they existed at all. We can always hope, though I wouldn't want to encounter one in the back country.

Contrary to what some would like you to believe, wolves and grizzlies range is much larger than reported. They also cross highways and roam City streets. Plenty of examples in my county. In fact on my own property. Populations of both have done an amazing job rebounding.

The loss of 399 in the Jackson area is sad and inevitable, she gave many glimpses of her cubs for years.

Many states don't want to admit to having grizz or wolves since they will be under federal control and restrictions.

A chance meeting with a grizzly specialist in my area several years ago was intriguing. I asked about several grizzlies that I was aware of, spread over a wide area(approximately 50 miles) He was able to give me detailed updates on each one, including the sow that spends her falls by or on my place. Currently she and her cubs have still stayed out of trouble.

Years ago my son and myself were able to help get research information on a captured black bear. My son still talks about it. I also have a friend who's son was attacked by a grizz and survived. I also have a friend who's brother was killed by one, along with a family members friend that was killed.

I can post pics of what 2 colts looks like after wolves attack. Most don't want to see them. I have several friends that have lost livestock to wolves, one rancher loses anywhere from 5-8 mother cows a year. Wolves are 100% carnivore while bears can be carnivore or omnivore.

If you have wolves in the area watch your pets, same with lions.

Looks kind of big for a Wolf and way too big for a Coyote. My Great Pyrenees Diesel had a paw print easily that size, he was 140 lb.
