Best place to buy tooling......

I get the most bang for my buck at estate sales, garage sales and Flea Markets. I can regularly get stuff for ten cents on the dollar. The problem is that I seldom get the stuff I need when I need it. But I have really gotten some good stuff over the years.

FRANK FORD: Actually,Rio Grande now carries several type styles for about $75.00 a set. Check them out. They have some REALLY nice styles. I have amassed old stamps myself over the years from 1/32" to 1/2". I would not consider putting Gothic stamps on a nice project.

For myself, (Canadian suppliers were mentioned already above, KBC, Busy Bee etc,) however, for internet shopping for measuring instruments, I have had no issues with 'tresnainstrument.com' vis a vis quality\price.

Just one more site to see,

I've bought from Penn Tool here in central/northern NJ. They've usually got good prices and they are good guys. Their website sucks and they know it.

Tools4cheap. Said it before...Jeff's a good guy with good stuff for good prices.

Victor Machinery in NY. Never had a problem and good prices.

Phase II+. I've bought directly from them here in NJ. Nice people with good stuff. Seems to be above-average Asian quality.

Bauer Factory/Industrial Supply. Another central/northern NJ biz that offers a good selection of tooling, can get it fast if they don't have it, and good guys to deal with.

Mcmaster Carr. I won't buy big-ticket items from them because, let's not forget, they sell primarily to businesses and big companies who are willing to pay more to get something right away. So they're not the cheapest but they usually have that small item I need.... and they're far cheaper than Grainger!

Enco. Not always the cheapest; coupons help. A good selection. I'll only buy from them if I can't get it locally. Their shipping costs seem above average.

Harbor Freight and Ebay. Nothing further needed to say about them.

AR1911; Let the CDCO thing go, I tried to deal with him against the advice of some of the members. He tried to overcharge me out of the box. It's a shame there were several things I wanted.

I see that I never finished this story.
After repeatedly emailing about my order (with no response), 6 weeks after my charge card was billed I finally got "Frank" on the phone. He said they had just forgotten to send it. They did send it, about 2 weeks later. Seems like it took one more phone call. CDCO isn't completely off my list, but they are at the bottom.

AR,
I thought Shars and CDCO had some kind of linkage too. Seems like they run off of the same inventory and actually have different prices too. I am very weary of them both. Seems like they have had a fairly large number of poor shiiping times and poor quality complaints all over the web. I just stay away from that to avoid getting my dander up and starting a flame war with em. Not worth the effort, especially when some one else usually has what I need at a good or better price. Just takes a little more research to find it sometimes.
Hope this helps.
Bob

It depends on what I buying, but I use

Enco

Shars
Victor Machinery Exchange
CDCO
Rutland Rutland
MSC
McMaster-Carr
Tool 4 Cheap
LMS
Harbor Freight

and the local industrial suppliers and the local machine shop suppliers, I avoid CL and Ebay because of all of the BS involved.
