I picked up a nice little Browning today. I am just waiting for my hunting licence to go through and my weapon application so until then, the seller is holding it for me. Anyway, I would guess it is a 1920's model and it came with a scope, cantilever mounts, bore snake and about 1000 rounds. Pictures inbound.

I just needed to tell someone as my wife does not seem to appreciate firearms as much as you guys do

Well you asked for it, here are the pictures ;) I am really pleased with this rifle. It shows some wear on the bluing but the barrel is perfect and it functions as it should. The wood work is also in gerat shape so overall it seems to be a fantastic purchase at $460 considering what they go for in this condition on the online auctions. Can you tell that I am chuffed?

Great score! These are really neat little rifles. Is this one a take-down?

It's really interesting to read the history of John Browning and how he came to be associated with FN. American gun makers didn't want his designs, then spent decades copying FN's Browning designs.

Yes, it is a take down rifle. It uses cantilever scope mounts so that the scope is fastened to the barrel to reduce zero shift.

I had forgot to mention it also comes threaded with a silencer included in the purchse. I will looking at the Steyr Mannlicher tomorrow to compliment the little .22. I have a thing for classic rifles and machines :D

I know the rifle was expensive but given that it came with the original manual, scope, correct mounts, ammo, silencer and bore snake - and the great overall condition, I think I did ok.

I'm not sure if this is a tactful request but I'd be interested in hearing about the effectiveness of the suppressor -

Hello Randy - nothing untactful about the request at all. There is a stigma in other countries about owning a suppressor however in Norway it is considered good manners to use one as it reduce noise for the neighbours and saves the dog's hearing. When I get my dirty hands on the rifle (it should be within about 3 weeks), I'll take it to the range and video it with, then without to give you a comparison.

Rick - I think I did ok too. In general, most of the Belgian Browning's are the newer design with the varnished stock and side loading port. This one has the top loading port so it only holds 8 .22 lr rounds as opposed to 11, and it also has the oiled walnut as standard. There is no engraving either so with all these features, I have had a bear of a time trying to figure out the manufacture date and would put it at about 1920 if I had to guess. It is pushing at least 80 years of age so given the condition of the bluing and the fact that there is no rust on the barrel and the internals are in excellent condition, I think it's a fairly rare find.
