I picked up a HF 4x6 horiz/vert band saw and I want to get a better blade for it to cut mostly steel, what do you guys recommend using that works best? I plan on doing the mod's to it that everyone does and this is the main one to start with as it comes with the cheap one that everyone seems to throw away.
It seems that the bi-metal ones are the way to go.

Vari-Pitch BiMetal 6-10 TPI or 10-14 TPI

Remember 2 to 3 teeth in the material at all times to prevent tearing out teeth. The one I sell the most seems to be the 10-14 TPI.

I have a Starret variable pitch blade on mine, works great. I did run through two Harbor Freight blades before I got a decent blade though, and they work just fine too, though didn't last as long, and didn't seem to cut as fast.

Irwin works well?

I've been a slave to Lennox blades for years. Looks like an Enco order to check out the 'I' blade.

How about hacksaw blades? Lennox is still a good blade. Starret is okay- but I wouldn't use them over Lennox.

Lenox Diemaster 2 are the blades I prefer to use and supply my clients. I keep them here in 93-1/2" for my vertical bandsaw and 64-1/2" for the 4 x 6 bandsaws and special order any others to size as needed.

Starret was always way too brittle for my liking.

I use Olson 14-18 variable pitch bi-metal blades in my 4x6, I also keep a 24tpi blade on hand for thinner material..

Not to tangent the thread but can someone enplane the benefits of a variable pitch. I started seeing these on saws at friends' shops and I have seen they cut nice but I'm not sure why.
