This is one I made for my Myford ML 7 just sits on the back of the cross slide so don't have to remove tool post and can get the maximum size ball

Hi forgive me for my ignorance. I am amazed that the cutting tool is so simple as a hss rod. Does it not need a cutting edge and what material were you cutting?
I want to cut a 10mm radius concave groove. Do you think your device could do that?
Thanks
Roger

Yes you do need to grind a cutting edge. The High speed steel (HSS) is matterial used for making cutting tools it works very good on must none hardend metals. as you get into harder metal carbide or other special cutting tools are used.
As long as the tip of the cutter can be placed 5mm pasted the center of the pivot point you can cut a 10mm concave. however if I was going to cut these often I would make a form tool with a 10mm Rad. (quicker to set up)

Just like has been said above; looks like a diving board. I noticed the current listing is for $49.00.

There's a lot of info and designs available and making tooling is good practice and it gives you something useful and customized to your needs. I made a quick and dirty turner a really long time ago and never got around to making a better one. But it is still on the list.

And if I keep looking at Mark F's threads it will be sooner than later. (His shop built tooling makes me drool.) :))

It will cut a 10mm radius into the od of a bar but not into the end of a bar. To cut into the end of a bar the swing point of radius has to be inside the radius. I have cut a hemispherical radius into the end of a bar with a different radius cutter I made. It will cut the center out of a bar to make like half of a ball shape mold.
