Anyone use Tractor Supply Black diamond fine blasting abrasive?

Can you use walnut shells for blasting? If I recall, it's pretty safe for engine use. Like @Nutfarmer says, I've also heard glass beads inside an engine caused (about 6) engine failures. Walnut shells ought to be ok for a tranny case, it's not aggressive like black diamond slag or garnet.

What about using either walnut or corn cob made for cleaning brass for reloading. You should be able to pick it up or order from any gun shop / sporting goods store that sells reloading supplies.

Flyinfool is right. Cob blasting is a good choice!
We used it on aluminum a lot. Does an excellent job.

At this point, I would look into an acid. Mag wheel cleaner, or maybe something stronger that you can get from a pool supply company.

Please don't use acid. Not for irreplaceable stuff.

Use corn cob or walnut shells, much safer and won't remove features in a heartbeat. Walnut shell blasting is also lower dust, so you will be able to see what's going on more clearly while blasting. Home Depot, Harbor Freight, Amazon, Tractor Supply, Northern Tool, Fastenal and others seem to carry this. Apparently it is ok to blast paint off fiberglass on boat hulls. Won't cause pitting. Maybe you could also find this at a marine supply?
