Anyone have plans for target holders?

No plans but my holders are simple enough. The frame itself is just a pair if 1x2 furring strips screwed to a piece of 1 1/4 inch luan plywood. It's $10 for a 4x8 sheet and hold staples well. You get at least 4 targets per sheet. The feet are 1x2furring with the receptacles made from 2x4 blocks and scrap 1/2 inch ply. I made three (50/100/200 yds) for 20 bucks.

Nice looking range. As far as the target stands. Many of our guys drive smaller cars, they cut the firring strips in half and use a carriage bolt and wing nut to fold the strips to shorter size. Quick and easy. Perhaps the club will help foot the bill for the bases? They buy the material and you weld up a bunch... then store them at the club and just transport the sticks and targrts?

The rule for the club is that you must provide your own. I don't know if they have a whole lot of storage on sight either. I'm not sure if they had issues in the past but with the size of the club (2200 members or so) there may be maintenance issues with club-owned target holders. Some of the stories I've already heard from the range officers of things that they've had to deal with in the past when some real bozos joined up are real head shakers.

I made this one out of PVC...

Place a couple of sandbags on the base and it works great...

I would be fine with something like that, the wife, not so much. I balk at the idea of making her carry sand bags for a few hundred yards by herself. I'm sure she could do it but it would be nice to have a solution that is a bit more wife friendly. Now if I were to use something like that I can see myself trying to sight in a new gun and blowing it to smithereens with the first "wild" shot. That would be my luck anyway. :banghead:

Some good suggestions that have got me thinking a bit (now there's an accomplishment ).

Thanks,

You could drill some holes in the base and use tent pegs... I use sandbags because they are already out there..

The one I have is a welded up frame of 1/2" re-bar with two T shaped feet made of 3/4" pipe and more rebar. Ity works OK for my own home range, but would be too heavy to carry back and forth to a range. Also steel can be more dangerous due the chance of a deflected bullet. I remember seeing a set of plans that used a pair of bases that firring strips slipped into. A single cross piece was held in place with spring clamps and fresh piece of cardboard was used above the cross piece, stapled to the uprights and cross piece with a staple gun. Targets were taped to the cardboard with masking tape. You could add angle supports with more clamps, if needed for windy days and weight the feet with sand bags. Buy the cheap plastic spring clamps from Harbor Freight so you don't cry when one gets hit and shatters. You could do the same thing with bolts and wing nuts if you pre-drill the holes. Make sure you have extras of either method!

The one I'm eying right now is similar to that, the Range-Pro from Challenge Targets.
