Any tips or tricks to the back lash adjustment on cross slide

That shaft is a thing of beauty .
Amazing finish, really ............. :-0
My only guess is the nut kept coming loose and the bearings and washers where running cockeye
I feel like someone in the past kept cranking the bolt on hard and it would loosen. Im picking up a nylon locking nut at some point.

The bush bearing was free spinning in the housing and flopping around .

You can print missing gears using a 3D printer (PLA or PETG will do). My lathe has 3 printed gears (emergency repair) and they survived more than a year of misuse. If one breaks, I will not even replace them by the POM gears I have made but use again a 3D printed gear. When a 3D printed gear breaks, there is less chance of more damage.
