@Alcap - yes the black base is my concoction as well. When I built the regular grinding rest for my lathe tools some years ago I needed to elevate the grinder by about 1-1/2” to get the clearance I wanted. For that I just used a scrap of 2x6 I had lying around, so when I came up with idea to have the grinder swivel for this new scenario it was already halfway there. I got rid of the old riser and made a new one out of MDF that incorporated some lugs for the thumb knobs and a quadrant for a locating pin. My initial concept for the locating pin was to have it slightly tapered, and in fact I bought a couple of taper pin reamers with that in mind, but so far I’m finding the 1/4” straight drill rod pin works just fine with no discernible lack of register. At least for this application anyway.
