All R8 collets and adapters are not created equal

Further update:

I drove into the Detroit metro area where CME Tools and Wholesale Tools live. I phoned ahead to make sure they had the adapter in stock, they both did.

I measured the OD of the small end of the adapter standing at the counter, and they were both 0.948" plus a 10th or two. I was confident they would fit so I bought 1 of each. One was $10.44, and the other was $22 and change.

The counter guy at Wholesale Tool was aware of the problem and cited a lack of published standard as the issue.

When I got home I cleaned them both real well and tried them. They both fit. Now I suppose the run out may be excessive, or the Procunier will drop out of the sleeve or some damn thing.

As I drove to Detroit, I thought more about the adapters that didn't fit and realized that being 0.950", and if the spindle bore on my mill is truly no more than the spec at 0.9495, that would be a tight half thou interference fit. No wonder they didn't fit.

Edit:
Forgot to mention, Production Tool refunded the purchase price, citing another guy that had to return his adapter too.
