My 30 plus years old Craftsman compressor has reached it's retirement age. It is an oil less unit that I have rebuilt twice. It still works but I hate the noise. It sits right next to the mill and when it kicks on it always scares the crap out of me. It has a 30 gallon tank and is somewhere around 8-9 cfm at 90 psi. I would like to have one a bit larger, perhaps 45 to 60 gallons and 9 or more cfm at 90 psi. The noise is the main reason mine has to go. Before I wore hearing aids it didn't bother me so bad but now I literally jump every time it goes on. I have seen some ads for some "quiet" air compressors (70 db or so). Has anyone here had any experience with them. From what I read, they run slow (1650 as opposed to my 3450 oil less unit) and the compressors are relatively small. They achieve higher volumes by simply adding more compressors. Any information or direct experience with these type of units is appreciated.

I have a small California compressor for filling tires and random tasks. It's lovely for such use. VERY quiet, and quite reliable/tough, or what it is. I've banged it against its thermal limit, and once it cooled off, it ran perfectly fine, like nothing happened. It's not a high duty cycle machine, though.

For things like media blasting, I have a beastly, old, Devilbliss 80 gallon jobby. It's getting tired, though. Might have to make a change soon. A medium duty, modern, 60 gallon unit sounds desirable. Looking forward to suggestions in this thread...

What is the physical size? sounds like it is exactly what I want.

My Quincy QT series is a few years old now, and I smile every time I hear it kick on, because at 65 decibels it sounds like a refrigerator coming on compared to my old one. The 5 hp model puts out 19 cfm at 150 psi, which is enough to spoil a man.
