Adventures of a newbie

Hi Ben, Not heard anything from you for a while (life got in the way?). Sorry you don't know me, I've just been reading your post as I'm a Newbie too and interested in your journey setting up the workshop.

Hi FeetZ.

Yes, life got in the way of hobbies for a while. I’m trying to make some time now to get back in to it.

I got the lathe moved today to its new home, so hopefully I’ll be back at it soon

What tools and machines do you have (we like pictures )

Good to see you back! There are few enough of us Subjects of His Majesty on here!

I nearly bagged a Warco 918 yesterday. The chap was willing to swap for a mini lathe (he had sensible enough reasons). Unfortunately the person who messaged him an hour before me, got back to him and went for it and gave him cash money.

I am kind of relieved, if I'm honest. The improvements I've made to my mini lathe so far, seem to have paid off (I've doubled the doable DOC in steel and made parting off steel a pretty drama free operation) and I still have more improvements that I'm looking forwards to making.

Eh, next year will be the year of the 'new-to-me proper lathe'. I rather fancy keeping the 'Warco' theme going on in my workshop (bench grinder, 'Minor' mill, and band saw so far), so if I can find something 'green' would be nice. One of their Taiwanese lathes from the 80s or 90s would be good. The spares department fellas at Warco are so helpful, that in spite of myself and a little to my shame, I've unusually developed a bit of brand loyalty!:grin:
