Just curious... Do we have any ABS folks here, apprentice, journeyman, or master?

Lets talk!

There is also ABANA (Artist-Blacksmith's Association of North America)
They sponsored the convention in SLC this last July that I went to for the Damascus class.
GREAT organization dedicated to keeping all the old style (and new) metal arts alive.

I'm currently an ABS apprentice. I'm still a couple years out to test for JS due to the time rules.

Apprentice here too as I just decided I was interested in the certification. I was thrilled however, yesterday.
Did a 1 1/4" wide O1 blade, HT'd it, tempered it twice, shaved hair then bent a 4" radius to about 85 degrees. (Ran out of
room for futher bend) Blade survived nicely... didn't even chip or crack the edge! WHOOPEE! That was the part of
the upcoming test that scared me and most others. So now, it's just keep plugging until the clock says "now"!

Are you familiar with Brad Vice Alabama Damascus? NOT just 1095/15N20 steel. From his website:
(4) layers 5160, (3) layers 203E, (3) layers 52100, (3) layers 15N20 folded 5 times for 416 layer damascus.
That's a nice recipe for a superior steel. When I finish the power hammer, I'm going to try to top it! I've already
used a fair amount of his steel and it's good, but I think I can better it. O1, 5160, 1084 and 200E. Can't wait to try it!
