Welcome to the site!

Wow! christmas is coming early for someone!!!

That is a big, beautiful lathe.

Unfortunately no info, but some pictures at :
http://vintagemachinery.org/mfgindex/detail.aspx?id=4080&tab=4

What an unusual concave 3-jaw chuck in some of those photos.
Also, the diagonal web inside the bed casting.

Please show us many, many more photos.....!

Hi Brino.

Christmas is definitely coming early. She arrives late tomorrow via crane truck which I am hoping will be uneventful!

I will definitely share photos when it gets here and any repairs/cleanup that I do.

I have never seen a chuck like that myself, very interesting.

All the best!

She looks like it's time to get to work and make usefull items. Sure looks in great condition, good luck with her. Learn her ways she,ll help ya build all kinds of tools and neat items. God bless

Yeah I am really looking forward to playing around with it. Arrives tomorrow, all things going to plan. Thank you and all the best.

The old girl has made it to her new home in one piece. I haven't had time to really have a good look yet, or actually put her on the concrete but it really looks to be in good shape. Missing the tailstock chuck and main chuck key, other than that, everything seems to be in order and moves freely. The headstock has been leaking for some time and because of that, the reservoir is empty (very glad I didn't just plug it in and give it a go!) I will see how I go in the next few days with work, hopefully I will get time to give her a bath at least.

It came with a steady rest and 3 other chucks, plus some other bits and pieces. I will post a photo of them tomorrow, maybe someone can shed some light on what they are. That's it for now!

Hi guys and girls.

Brand new here and also haven't touched a lathe since highschool! As the title says, I have just purchased a DSG 13x42 and would love any information on it that people can give. What issues to look out for, suggested tooling to purchase etc etc. I definitely don't plan on a restoration, however, pointers on where to look for wear, types and quantity of fluid to replace and anything else you can think of would be very much appreciated.

I've attached a photo of the ol girl. Would anyone know the age?

Thanks again.

Dave.

Dave welcome to this great forum, I see you are from Adelaide,, me too, Unfortunately I can't help with that lathe, I've never heard of them, and I've been playing with machines for almost 60 years. However don't hesitate to ask, if there is anything I can help you with let me know.

Bob.

Hi Bob.

Thank you for the offer. I'm in Lewiston, are you around that area?

I really don't know much about lathes at all but Google suggested that this make is of a high quality so I took a gamble. I'll post some more photos in a minute. From an absolute novice, it doesn't appear to be in bad shape.

Lewiston, that's a fair way of to the north, but at least we are in the same time zone. I'm at Eden Hills between Darlington and Blackwood. But if you have a problem a quick email or text is better than waiting until the next day. for a reply from the other side of the world.

Having said that, this is a great site. Most everyone will treat you with respect, and try to help where they can. There is a wide depth of knowledge here and some interesting ideas from self taught people.

Your new lathe looks to be in fair condition, and is a well regarded make. Clean it up and look after it , it will serve you well.

Alright so I've been doing a fair bit of cleaning. Everything looks pretty good to me so far. I did find one crack which has been welded up, seems fine (I will get a photo tomorrow). One of the oiler tubes had come loose so I have soldered that back into place and given it an oil change. Any idea what fluid to use? I was told 32 weight hydraulic which is what I have used, however, what I took out felt much heavier/thicker.

Also, on the pallet is what came with the lathe. There is a variety of chucks, big and small. Not sure what yet (if any), will fit this lathe.

Thank you Bob, much appreciated.

If I get time tomorrow I will see if I can get it running, for all I know there could be electrical gremlins yet.

That looks like one serious lathe A good size I like it gears all look pretty good a little bit of surface rust in a few places. a little spray with a good moisture displacer / lubricant like Inox MX3 would get rid of most of it. I use this on everything even use it as a general purpose cutting fluid , also works great with aluminium and stainless as well a steel. and will keep your lathe clean and shiny I also use the sister product Lanox MX 4 on items that are being stored as a rust preventer for long term storage.
