2016 POTD Thread Archive

Decided to make myself an SI-Drive knob cover for my 2016 Subaru STI. The cover is made from aluminum and it has a 1988 penny (my birth year) mounted flush with the top. I was aiming to have the penny press fitted into the cover, but I over shot the measurment by .001. Wasn't happy with it, so I JB Welded it to the flat bottomed bore. Like always, I'm still learning and don't yet have the skills you fellows have.View attachment 123518

Nicely done young man! BTW, thats the same birth year of my son.

boostin53, You trying to make us feel old aren't you. Looks nice though.

Sharky, That breather looks good at least that has room under the hood, All the excess pluming on the new ones causes very little room

Haha thank you guys. I have a lot to learn from my elders! Don't take the elder part in the wrong way. I just wish more people my age and younger thought the same way....

Spent the day out in the shop today welding . Boy do I need the practice don't look too close .
This piece of lexan came with my mill the previous owner cut it but didn't make a bracket so I did. I need a better bolt system.

Also made a stand for my gun cleaning vise . I wanted something for the middle of my gun room so I could work from either side . The top is removable so I can mount a vise . Just needs paint .

DSC01768.JPG DSC01768.JPG I guess that this will work in the POTD. Every time one of these handles break, I make a new one. This is number 3. I bought this nice little lathe at a yard sale for $15. The handles aren't exactly pretty, but they are a lot stronger and much easier on the hands.

made aluminum ones for all my old german clamps..they are older than me

Those halogens do get hot. I have mine all torn down for paint, so I will steal your idea for the bulb replacement when I reassemble it. Thanks, Mike

he lamp is not shown in the post, but its a typical articulating lamp commonly found on lathes. I'll post up some pictures once I mount the lamp. I'm replacing the short snake type lamp that came on the lathe. This is the light I purchased on eBay.
