Nicely done. Looks like you could head out to sea with your lathe now. Mike

Thanks for the pictures
I like those ideas, I hadn't thought of an over centre dog clamp arrangement to lock them in place.

Were as the carriage stop milled or angle ground out ? ( I have no milling equipment ..yet )

Went to install the carburetors on the Vboost manifolds:

Discovered there wasn't enough frame clearance as the Vboost manifold raised the carbs approx 1". Ended up having to drop the front engine mounts for clearance but got them in:

They clear once in the rubber joiners. There just wasn't enough clearance to get them to the point where they could be inserted with the engine in the mounts.

Still need to rework the jetting once its up and running. There's no freaking way I'm dropping the mounts every time to change jets! The lower frame and all the bits pretty much have to come off to get to the mounts.

Luckily, it looks as if there's enough room to pull the bowls once the airbox is out of the way. But since hte bowls are vertical (downdraft carbs) I'll have to replace the Phillips bowl screws with some socket heads to make it feasible to get them out "in situ".

I have a 1982 Yamaha Virago that needs completely gone over. As soon as I get my roof patched up on my shop I dig into that project. Nice bike you got there.

I have the 1981 Virago that I am starting to rebuild. I have had it since new.
Mice got into the wiring, so I have to find and fix that before I can even get it running again.

We should start a Virago Restoration Thread. Or at least a Motorcycle Restoration Thread.

My Virago is in my shop with the "leaky roof". Seriously. It's been in there for years. It was running the last time I saw it. But it's got to be in seriously bad shape now. It used to have a nice windshield on it but when the roof caved it that got broken. As soon as I patch up the roof of the shop I'll start in on the Virago rebuild project. It's going to need a complete restoration to be sure.
