Got a chance to work with the toys today. Finished the last wheel. These 14" wheels will fit most full size cars rear axle for demo derby. They are super thick Nissan Pathfinder wheels. Not for street. Built a set of 4 for a customer.

How did you cut the center out of the stock wheel. I guess my question is mainly about precision. What radial run out is acceptable for a DD car? What radial run out did you achieve?

Cut a piece of 5/8" x 5.5" stock to length, then milled the the end square with the factory cut side. Laid out center and 4 support bolt holes after bluing with Dykem. The piece will hold a 1.375" flange mount ball bearing on a portable generator rebuild.

Got fed up using a wrench on my QCTP so made a QAD top nut. (and I do mean quick and dirty)

it wasnt meant to be open at the top but I got carried away when drilling. I guess I will have to make a button to fill the hole. Doh!

I used a Oxy Acetylene Torch for the rim centers. Runout is pretty minimal for the method :-) Derby isnt too picky as they are in mud and dont go above 40mph.

Made some aluminium fittings to replace the plastic ones that had broken on an old camp stretcher that had been stuck away in the garage for some time (which I might just have a use for soon). Just a simple plug with a button on the end that clips into a cross bar to hold the stretcher open.

The new one compared to one of the old plastic ones that hadn't broken - yet. Should manage to squeeze a bit more life out of the old stretcher now.

Should make a reliable paper weight also. Nicely done. Mike
