1236T - Up and Running, First chips

Yes, it ejects my drill chuck with a tang on the end at about 20mm and the live centers are closer to 10mm.
Makes more difficult to use the numbers. Don't know why they did that. Will prob. mount a tailstock DRO.

Before I made a tailstock DRO out of calipers, the 1in mark is what I used for zero. Once you get use to it, its not hard to keep up with.

I do the same as Jason, but I mostly do metric, so use the 20mm mark. I plan on making a dro for the tailstock some day, there are several good designs by people here on the forum if you do a search.

FYI, the Gates BX25 belts fits the 1340GT, but the 1236T has a shorter headstock and requires a shorter belt (assume BX24). It also mean that the motor space is smaller and also the front switch panel is shorter in height. If one is using a VFD on a 3 phase motor they can flip the motor pulley so the larger motor pulley drives the larger headstock pulley, and run the motor to 90Hz to get ~the same top end. This usually requires a BX26 for the 1340GT, the 1236T probably a BX25.

Thanks. Couldn't find this info prior. Have now ordered a BX24.

Cool! I just got your lathe's little brother (1130v) but man the shipping crate couldn't have been more different. Mine came in a thin plywood crate/box which was pretty easy to take apart. Yours looks like somebody was building a serious privacy fence! ;)
With the stand, you're entire unit is probably twice what mine weighs, but still....!

Enjoy the new tool.
Mine came the same way yours did. I think it is the difference between China and Taiwan, I am still happy thus far.

Follow-up. The Gates BX24 belt works for the 1236T. To confuse things, the PM supplied belt is marked B-25. Don't translate to Gates numbers!
On to more swarf.

I am looking to buy? Would you buy the model again?
I have the PM-1236, Not the PM-1236T, China vs. Taiwan, I paid for the upgrades but it is still a bit less expensive. The gear Box is chunky and there are a couple of improvements they could make to simplify the assembly process; but, overall I am pleased with the machine and would buy it again.
