This is a shaft from the transmission of a John Deere tractor. It is discontinued so finding a replacement has been near impossible. I can weld it up or make a new one.
Welding is problematic from a heat treat standpoint. What material should be used for toughness but still be able to machine?
Making a new one is problematic from a straightness standpoint. I'm worried about sending it out for heat treat and having it come back not straight. What material should I use?
