vise for a lathe

I cannot suggest a particular vice Slingshop but would myself go for a Toolmakers' style of vice. My reasoning is that most will for the task have purchased a vice which is a scaled down version of a drilling or milling vice.

The method of fixing these means that the position on the cross slide, or vertical slide, for positioning them is rather limited, also, their workpiece capacity will not be that great.

With a toolmakers vice there is much more flexibility as to where on the slide they are fitted and in the majority of cases their capacity will be much greater.

Look at the following for an article which explains this in more detail. Do especially look at photographs 4, 5 and 6 and associated text.

For those not conversant with my website the best place to start is the book style index see here.

The site now runs to around 550 pages, mostly metalworking.
