Tool Holders and Insert Selection Help

I got my first new tool holder. Its for threading od. It seems very rigid.

I was just messing around. First time cutting threads on a manual lathe. I got 1 acme thread insert to experiment with and a couple of 60 deg.



I was set up @ 30 rpm, 4 tpi, taking .015" per cut. Random diameter. I just wanted to do a big thread. hah.

I will need to learn to use my taper attachment this weekend. I'm going to learn to do NPT on 3" pipe and make some nipples. That's why I got the threading tool today.

My next purchase will probably be the parting tool. I saw some that hold inserted and standard HSS cutters. I think that's the type I'm leaning towards.

That's a nice knurling tool, I will be on the look out for a good deal. And thanks for the chuck info. I watched a couple of videos on youtube about setting up my 4 jaw. I am getting it pretty good already.
