My first experience with Torx screws....
Had a headlight broken by a rock kicked up by someone on the highway. Bought a replacement when we got home. Replace it myself? No problem.
Removed the grill from the car.... metric AND US hex head bolts.
There was a chromed trim piece surrounding the headlight pairs (you remember the four rectangular GM headlights?) four phillips head screws.
So far so good
Finally accessed the light mount...it secured the headlight to the adjustment frame assembly. phillips head wouldn't fit. flashlight showed me a five pointy hole in the innermost fastener. I had never seen one before. Called my dealership and asked. 'Oh...that's the new Torx fasteners we're using'. Told me the size I needed so I walked down to the neighborhood shop and bought one. Walked back home. Removed the first screw. Tool wouldn't fit the second. Flashlight showed me it was also a 5-slot Torx...but a little bit larger. Walked back to the shop and bought the next two larger sizes...sets weren't available in 1982, apparently. Walked back home and finished the job.
All day Saturday job to replace a single headlight.
One of those rare times when I suspected that if I knew the engineer responsible, I would have made the national news.
