The 9x20 Mods Thread

OK, the shaft is done. The anti-backlash nut is made from a 5/16-18 coupler. All it lacks is the locking set screw in the open end. That pulls the threads tight against each other. I am going to make another so they are the same.

Nice one Bill, I eagerly await the in action report.
 
Hand Wheel day today. It will be 2.625 diameter as opposed to the old 1.750. Don't let the small increase fool you, it will make a big difference. O had this 4 inch blank in the scrap bin.

It works for me. New diameter is 2.765. Much better.

Done and solid as a rock. Thi9s is a good mod Charles. I am going to play with gear reduction now. 1:1 it cuts like a dream. I have to reinstall the power cross feed now as I took it off so I wouldn't damage it.

Excellent stuff Bill.
But I'm not happy, thats another mod added to the already way too long list:makingdecision: what first?
Still working on the new backplate, turning it to size and thinning it down a bit. Lots of swarf.
 
June will mark the 5th year I have been modifying mine Charles. It never ends. :nuts: :whiteflag:

Made a new unit Charles. It will accept 3 different reduction ratios. 2:1, 2.5:1 and 3:1. I will report back on these.

With 80% gear mesh the only back lash is minor and at the lead screw, not in the gear train Chuck.
