suggestions needed on making piston rings

Buy some cast iron bar stock and just turn them. Might have to lap them to finished width. I saw a WWII video of a woman making them for Merlin engines on a turret lathe. Use CAST IRON .You need the graphite content.

Having experimented with making a few rings, I thought I would respond. The main
problem with machining a ring is that when you cut the ring, it springs out and
is no longer round, more an elipse. If you build a jig that centers and holds the
ring holding it together with the desired ring gap, you can turn the outside surface with
a very light cut and the ring will seat all around the circumference in the bore.
The rings will not seat if you don't do this.
