Well like the title says, some success and a little setback I hope doesn't turn into a major pain, if you saw my other thread on the HF 12x36 lathe you saw I got a pretty sweet deal on what was actually a 12x37 gap bed lathe with a bunch of extras, I knew it had an electrical issue and could only run it in reverse manually to check it out before I purchased it, well I brought it home around new years day and its been in my shed floor unroll this week, I knew it had a fried forward contactor so I found one on Amazon for less than twenty bucks but it took about three weeks to come from Hong Kong, I was busy so no biggie and I had to get it up onto the stand so I could work on it, a piece of 3x3 tubing slid through the rafters and some 2x12 lumber to form an a frame and a couple of chain hoist made easy work of it, so I got the new contactor in the mail and got it installed and success, got the green light on the panel, forward, reverse, all good, run her thorough all the gears, sounds good, runs nice and smooth, so now I'm in it about 517 bucks with the new contactor, so it's running and up and on the stand so I can get at it to start cleaning some of the muck out of it, it's filthy, I take the cross slide off and its got cosmoline and chips in every nook and cranny so I know I gotta go from one end to the other and get it clean, so I get down to the apron and get it loose and flip it on the the bench and the brass worm gear that rides on the lead screw is missing about three teeth, bummer, now what? Where you gonna find something like that ? Maybe cross it over to a grizzly machine but how to find out which one?
