Here are some of my earlier woodcarvings and turnings when I was younger--they are all out of single pieces of wood and done by hand with knives and gouges-- no power tools--now I have all the power tools to do things faster and more detail, but after getting to 70 my eyesight is needing help---one thing I like about wood is the nice grains and smells when you are working with it--shoe polish was my favorite for staining and polishing-----I think alot of us older folks started out without power tools---but it sure is rewarding to gather as many now as we can squeeze into our shops----you can see that one of the small mans head is a carving out of very hard AAAAA-2014 036.jpgAAAAA-2014 021.jpgAAAAA-2014 022.jpgAAAAA-2014 023.jpgAAAAA-2014 024.jpgAAAAA-2014 025.jpgAAAAA-2014 028.jpgAAAAA-2014 029.jpgAAAAA-2014 032.jpgAAAAA-2014 033.jpgAAAAA-2014 034.jpgAAAAA-2014 020.jpgAAAAA-2014 019.jpgAAAAA-2014 018.jpgAAAAA-2014 003.jpgAAAAA-2014 004.jpgAAAAA-2014 005.jpgAAAAA-2014 006.jpgAAAAA-2014 007.jpgAAAAA-2014 009.jpgAAAAA-2014 010.jpgAAAAA-2014 013.jpgAAAAA-2014 014.jpgAAAAA-2014 017.jpgAAAAA-2014 035.jpgbone--a deer antler--the other small head is apricot wood----my favorite woods to carve were the hard oaks, elms and hackberry--they all have the nice wavy grains-----Dave

I have to say, I admire your ability with wood. they all are great but my favorite is the pig. . . don't know why but its cool as can be. I've tried but failed miserably.. the artist in me is dead I think. . great work. thanks for sharing.

wow, all very nice work. the shoes and boots are cool, especially when you put your glasses next to them for scale. I enjoyed the pics, thanks for posting.

Yeah, the boots were neat. I never got in to carving.
Nice work though.
Are you on OWWM too?

thanks--yes I am registered on OWWM, but don't find time to be active--everything seems to take a lot of time when you have a lot of hobbies to keep up with-----especially the older I get--when I was younger I could be very quick to take on all the projects and get them accomplished---I think I need to shift gears though and get back to doing carving and woodworking plus the metalworking--Dave

I thought one of the post at OWWM, they went to your shop and used your Press?
Powermatic sander maybe?

I go there a fair amount, searching for help, ask questions. Bob Vaughn is esp. helpfull!
I don't know about you , but Here, it is too Darn cold to even go down stairs. I have a 5,000 watt heater, but The POS garage is not sealed up enough.
I have many pending projects need worked on.
Powermatic and Delta sanders, Craftsman Old Disk sander,

Powermatic and Delta sanders, Craftsman Old Disk sander,

I think sanders are one of the best helping machines in wood and metal shops---I have many of them probably just like yours--my Delta belt and disk sander needs to be worked on the upper belt pulley system--I bought it that way.---Dave

Dave, I was just notified you "thanked my post" again, nice work.
Speaking of sanders, I did get the Craftsman Disk sander up and running.
Tell you what, that is a decent little sander. Mostly just cleaned up and a little paint here and there. Did not have the OEM craftsman stand, used this one from ENCO.
Only thing I need to do, the PO never had a switch hooked up to it, just plug it in, and it runs. (not real safe IMO), so I have to get a switch.
The Craftsman sander reminds me a good bit of a delta disk sander. Lots of cast iron, and man, this baby is smoooooooooooth!
had a little vibration, but after new sandpaper and going over everything, and mounted to the ENCO stand, it's now smooth as silk.
I was going to try and balance the disk with stick on lead wheel weights, but now I don't have to.
Oh, BTY, I only gave $30.00 for the sander. Pittsburgh CL find. he wanted $35.00, I did not "bat an eye" but he said , tell you what how about $30.00. Ah...........OK then.......LOL
I think that was the 1st time the *seller* talked the price down..........LOL (helped with my gas, as it was a good hour away. All freeway though.
Anyways, enough yacking, here are some pictures. Got a double there, can't see where to delete it though.
thanks for reading.

Tony---the reason I thanked your post again is they wiped all the earlier thanks and likes off the threads---well your sander looks real good--is it a 12" or a 9" --they definitely are super handy for metal-wood and other materials--good job !---Dave
