That number also happens to be the serial number of my 1942 byf luger.

"They" tell us that it is not a good idea to use diamond wheels on steel tools, as it erodes the diamond; proper thing is to use CBN wheel.

Byf was a manufacturing code. It just means that it was made by Mauser.

OK, good to know; both of mine are DWM, one is a 1920 commercial, the other 1914.

You shouldn't use a Diamond wheel for steel, you should have a CBN wheel for steel Diamond wheels are for carbide....
