serial number on a 3996

Hi Robert, thanks for replying. The serial number is 105549, and the machine looks pretty clean. Any Info you have would be great. Is there an outlet for paperwork, owner/operating manuals?
I dont have it yet, but am looking forward to some simple exercises to start with.

Yep, you came to the right place.

If you look in Downloads in the Atlas/Craftsman/AA folder, you will see Atlas.Craftsman Lathe Manuals. You'll find the 3996 owner's manual in there. Unfortunately, you'll just have to look for it as the guy who wrote the software provided no sort capability. So the order in which the files appear is the reverse order in which they were put into the folder (or uploaded).

You also need a copy of the Atlas Manual of Lathe Operation (MOLO). For the 3996, any edition printed since 1968 will be OK, including the current (1988) one available from Clausing. The price for used ones on eBay typically runs $25-$45. Last I checked, Clausing's price was about $35 plus shipping.

A rough guess at the mfg. date would be 1977.
