Rubber / plastic to keep tools sharp?

an electric solder pot for pouring fishing lures might be just the "bee's knees" (had to do it).
 
I'm trying to remember the temp that my crock pot is set on but it's no where like melting solder. 300-325 degrees? If you burn this plastic/wax/oil mixture it stinks and is no longer any good. I've turned my pot up to "hurry" the melting. Big mistake!
I now have the dial marked as to the exact setting in case it gets bumped. Be patient,it will melt.......if I know I'll be grinding tools for later use, I turn it on when I go in the door. By the time I need it, it is usually melted and ready to use. YMMV
