I'm sure most have tried these but if haven't give them a go. There are a few suppliers but I know ENCO have them on sale from time to time.

I have a handful of them and have used them quite a bit. Very happy with the performance of them.....

I can certainly vouch for the rapid material removal. I lucked out and bought 10 lb of milling cutters from the scrap yard. Included were several roughers. I'm currently roughing out a double ended tangential tool on my X2 mini mill with a 1/2" second hand rougher. All I can say is WOW!

OT: I have ground drill bits with the cutting lip ground like a roughing endmill. I basically put a gouge in the middle of the flute with the corner of the wheel. Produces a very nice non stringy chip, less surface area with the work, and all around better in steel. Not for precision holes though, they can wander upon entry when the work hits the gouge in the edge. Also great for hardwoods.

There was a guy in the area that had a box full of them for sale, so I bought a couple to try out. Brand new 3/4" TiN end mills for $15 each. They cut like a big dog. I'm happy with them.

Roughing end mills worked great for me to get decent performance out of my (previous) mini-mill.

Made all the difference between doing lots of tiny cuts compared to whacking the part to size quickly.
