Robotics competition

So several thousand teams of high schoolers worldwide are now designing/building/programming/testing robots for this year’s competition. Watch the video and imagine yourself with a couple of dozen teenagers, and seven weeks until your first match. Personally, I don’t have to imagine.

Oh, and 75% of the students have no experience with tools.

I did FIRST in 2004 as a HS senior and loved it! It ended up being a really great experience, though took basically all of my spare time.

Once I moved to Oregon, I ended up mentoring for 2 seasons as well, it was really rewarding to help the students learn how to make things. As you said, most of the students hadn't used a screwdriver before, so it was quite the challenge!
