Roadside scrap: What is it?

I returned to the scene and found two more of these things. So I think that points to them being off the truck. If they came off railcar, then they didn't just randomly fall off; possibly a railcar was serviced nearby and these were replaced, discarded near the same place the truck broke down? Or maybe they're totally unrelated to either truck or train.
Dimensions are 6.25" × 4" × 2.375"

Kinda looks like a grouser like object.
Does not look like these objects could be placed end to end and keep the dimentions Ok for a long line of them.
i spent a year living in a man-camp at a remote mile long NWP railroad tunnel, & would not be surprised with any railroad tools.
cheers, Harvey

I do not see any marks that look like they were recently mouted in anything or wear marks of any kind. The rust patina looks pretty even everywhere, Like they have been there for a long time.
